Bathroom Waterproofing and Tiling on the Gold Coast

We waterproof and tile bathrooms across the Gold Coast and the Northern Rivers. Waterproofing and tiling are the two stages that decide whether a bathroom lasts. One keeps the water in the room, and the other is what you look at every day, and they depend on each other completely.

Our membrane work is carried out to AS 3740, the Australian Standard for waterproofing domestic wet areas, and certified. We flood-test the floor before a single tile goes down.

What’s included

What the work includes

This is the work we take care of on every job, and you’ll have it in writing before we start.

  • Substrate preparation and screeding
  • Falls set so water runs to the waste
  • Membrane to AS 3740, with the certificate
  • Flood test before tiling begins
  • Tile setout planned from your drawing
  • Floor, wall and niche tiling
  • Sealing, grouting and silicone to junctions
  • Rectification of a bathroom that's leaking

Tiles, stone, tapware and joinery are chosen with you during the design stage, and priced once you’ve settled on them. That way you’re choosing what you actually want rather than working back from a list.

What it involves

How a waterproofing and tiling actually runs

Every stage happens in this order, and you’ll know which one you’re in and what comes next.

  1. 01

    Preparation

The substrate is cleaned, primed and made sound. A membrane is only ever as good as what it's stuck to, so this stage isn't one to rush.

  2. 02

    Screed and falls

The floor is screeded so it falls to the waste from every direction. Getting this right is what stops water sitting in a corner of the shower.

  3. 03

    Membrane

The waterproofing goes on to AS 3740, with particular attention to corners, junctions and penetrations, which is where the work either holds or doesn't.

  4. 04

    Flood test

We fill the shower base and leave it, then check it. It's a simple test and it's the only way to know the membrane works before it's covered up forever.

  5. 05

    Tiling

Tiles are set out from the drawing so the full tiles land where you look and the cuts land where you don't. Then it's grouted, sealed and siliconed at the junctions.

Finishes and materials

What you’ll be choosing from

Membrane systems

We use liquid-applied membranes matched to the substrate and the application. The system is chosen for the room rather than whatever happens to be in the van.

Screeds

The screed carries the fall, so it's laid to a level rather than by eye, and checked before the membrane goes over it.

Tile formats

Large format, mosaic, subway, herringbone and stone all set out differently. We'll show you the layout before we start so there are no surprises at the edges.

Grout and sealants

Grout colour changes how a whole wall reads, and it's worth a minute of your time. Junctions are siliconed rather than grouted, because they move.

Common questions

About waterproofing and tiling, answered

Sometimes. It depends on where the water is getting through and how the original membrane was done. We'll look at it and tell you honestly whether a repair will hold or whether you'd be paying twice.

Yes, at handover. Keep it somewhere safe, because it's the document that matters if you ever sell the house or need to make an insurance claim.

We don't recommend it in a wet area. You can't waterproof reliably over an old surface, and it raises the floor level, which changes the falls and the door clearances.

There's a curing period for the grout and the silicone before the room goes back into use. We'll tell you the exact timing at handover, because it depends on the products used.
