The homes here

The homes we work on in Coolangatta

A three storey cream brick walk-up apartment block near the beach at Coolangatta with open balconies and mature palms in front
Coolangatta walk-up

Beachside walk-ups

A lot of Coolangatta's housing is three-storey brick walk-ups a block or two back from the sand, most of them built between the sixties and the eighties. The bathrooms are small, original and usually still have the terrazzo or the original waste in place. There is no lift in most of them, which changes how the job runs more than what goes into it.

Cottage bathroom

Post-war cottages

Behind the units there are small post-war cottages, and those bathrooms are usually the last untouched room in the house. They are tight, so the layout does most of the work: a walk-in shower where the old cubicle was and a wall-hung vanity usually buy back enough floor to change how the room feels.

Finishes and fixtures

What people choose in Coolangatta

Every bathroom is different, but these are the finishes we fit most often in Coolangatta homes.

Tile
Large-format porcelain in pale neutrals, which is the most effective thing you can do to a small walk-up bathroom.
Vanity
A compact wall-hung vanity with a stone top, hung to show as much floor as the room has.
Shower
A walk-in shower with a linear drain, which takes the step out of a cubicle these buildings all shared.
Tapware
Solid brass or stainless without exception. Two streets from Kirra is as harsh as finishes get.
Storage
A recessed mirror cabinet and a deep niche, because neither a walk-up nor a cottage has a wall to spare.

Where we work

Coolangatta and the border

We work right down to the border, so Coolangatta, Kirra, Bilinga and Tugun are all a short run for us. Currumbin and Palm Beach are the next suburbs north.

If your street is on the New South Wales side, that is fine too. We work both sides of it every week.

Common questions

Bathroom renovation questions from Coolangatta

In Coolangatta it usually turns on whether you are in a unit or a house. A walk-up with no lift adds labour to every load in and out; a cottage adds whatever is behind forty-year-old tiles. The free on-site measure settles which of those you have.

It adds time rather than difficulty. Everything in and out goes by stair, including the old tiles and screed, so we price the carry properly up front instead of finding it on day one.

Almost always, and older schemes are often stricter about noise hours than newer towers are. We get the work application in early and build the program around whatever hours your scheme allows.

Cheap chrome, and any finish with a thin coating over a base metal. This close to the sand they pit within a couple of years. Solid brass, quality stainless and good PVD finishes hold up, and we'll tell you which is which.

Yes, we work both sides of it weekly. The only practical difference is which set of plumbing regulations the job is certified under, and that is our paperwork to get right, not yours.
