The homes here

The homes we work on in Tweed Heads

Villas and low-set units

Much of Tweed Heads is single-level villas and small unit complexes, and the bathrooms in them were built to a budget thirty or forty years ago. They are compact, the shower usually sits in a hob-fronted cubicle, and the layout rarely uses the room it has.

Showers you can walk into

The most common request here is removing the step. A level-entry shower with a linear drain along one wall reads as a design choice rather than a modification, and it is far easier to live with than a hob you have to climb. Rails and a seat can be built in from the start or the wall can simply be sheeted to take them later.

Finishes and fixtures

What people choose in Tweed Heads

Every bathroom is different, but these are the finishes we fit most often in Tweed Heads homes.

Tile
Large-format porcelain in pale neutrals, laid with a subtle fall so a level-entry shower needs no hob.
Vanity
A wall-hung vanity with a stone top, hung at a height that suits the person using it rather than a standard.
Shower
A level-entry shower with a linear drain along one wall and a frameless panel, so there is nothing to step over.
Tapware
Brushed brass, with a matching brass grab rail so the rail reads as part of the room.
Storage
A mirror cabinet, and noggings behind the sheeting wherever a rail or a seat might later go.

Common questions

Bathroom renovation questions from Tweed Heads

In a villa the room is usually small, which helps, and the question is whether the layout changes. Taking out a hob and going level entry is more than a like-for-like swap and it is normally the part worth paying for. The measure is free.

Yes, and that is most of what we do here. A level-entry shower with a linear drain, full-height tiling and a frameless panel reads as current design, not as a modification. The rail can be a brass one that matches the tapware.

Put the backing in now either way. Noggings behind the sheeting cost almost nothing while the wall is open and mean a rail can go anywhere later without cutting tiles. Whether the rail itself goes on now is your call.

The body corporate, for anything touching plumbing, waterproofing or a shared wall. Smaller schemes are often quicker than towers, but they still want the paperwork, and we put that together and lodge it.

Only the paperwork, and that is ours. The plumbing is certified under the New South Wales requirements rather than Queensland's; the waterproofing standard is the same AS 3740 either way. Nothing about it changes what you get.
